Since 2016, postgraduate training of pharmacists in the internship in the course of pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy, postgraduate studies in the specialty "Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy". The department conducts summer internships in pharmaceutical botany and pharmacognosy for 2nd and 3rd year students of the Faculty of Pharmacy in Yaremche. The department conducts internships in pharmaceutical chemistry and specialization.
The main directions of scientific activity of the department: phytochemistry; computer chemistry of biologically active substances (BAS); evolutionary biochemistry of plants; search for plant species that are promising in terms of BAS content, to create drugs with specified properties; study of the fine molecular structure of BAS; computer modeling and synthesis of new compounds based on known BAS; study of morphobiological diversity of medicinal plants; development of technology for obtaining and quality indicators of new herbal medicines.
In total, during the years of the department's existence, six monographs were published, more than 600 scientific works were published, 24 patents of Ukraine for inventions and utility models and one European patent for inventions were obtained.
Seven employees defended their dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Sciences, two received the academic title of professor, one - the academic title of associate professor; one doctoral and one candidate dissertation works are performed.
The department is equipped with three spectrophotometers for analytical research in UV, IR and visible areas, high-speed centrifuge with cooling, analytical, torsional and technical scales, refractometers, ionomers, Soxhlet devices, chromatographic chambers, drying equipment and drying cabinet. conducting laboratory and practical classes.
Considerable attention is paid to the formation and development of scientific schools in the fields of pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy, which are well known in Ukraine and abroad. There is a student scientific circle at the department. During the existence of the department, students-members of its scientific circle received 5 first, 4 second, 3 third places at International and All-Ukrainian congresses, symposia and conferences of young scientists and students. Thus, in 2019, Alonge Halimat Shadiat, a third-year student of the Faculty of Pharmacy, a member of the student research group of the department, received a 2nd degree diploma at the 2nd stage of the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in English, held at the National Medical University. O.O. Bogomolets (April 4, 2019, Kyiv) with a report on the topic: “Phytochemical study on Dioscorea rotundata Poir. and Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott ”. In 2018, a member of the student research group of the department, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Pharmacy Bogdana Yashchuk received a first degree diploma at the XXII International Medical Congress of Students and Young Scientists at Ternopil State Medical University. AND I. Gorbachevsky (April 23-25, 2018, Ternopil) with a report on the topic: "Study of the content of phenolic compounds in the herb Agastache fennel."
History of the department
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy was established by order of the Rector of the University on September 1, 2003. Its founder was Doctor of Pharmacy, Prof. Olena Yuriyivna Konovalova is still the permanent head of the department.
From the first days, the department taught seven disciplines with internships for full-time students of the Faculty of Pharmacy and had five employees. From them the head of department and the senior lecturer of department Tamara Konstantinovna Shurayeva work till today.
During 2003–2015, the department was taught by Doctor of Pharmacy, Prof. Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Tsurkan and Ph.D., Associate Professor Faina Andriivna Mitchenko, who made a significant contribution to the development of the department. Thus, Alexander Alexandrovich worked at the University since 1999, took an active part in the creation of the Faculty of Pharmacy (from 1999 to 2003 he was
Dean), is currently a professor at Kyiv International University. Faina Andreevna has worked at the University since 1994; During 1994-2003 she held the position of Associate Professor of Phytotherapy with a course of pharmacognosy, from 2003 to 2015 - Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, from 2003 to 2013 - was the head of the department.
