Educational work is conducted in Ukrainian and English. The department accepts candidate exams in philosophy and foreign languages, as well as entrance exams for graduate school.
In recent years, the staff of the department has developed and published a number of textbooks and guidelines, including: "Fundamentals of Pedagogy" (TV Kirik, 2015); "Fundamentals of Psychology" (TV Kirik, 2018) "Guidelines for teachers, guidelines for students of Ukrainian as a foreign language" (TV Kirik, MM Bogolyubova, OV Chertkova) ; "Guidelines for teachers, guidelines for students of Latin" (TV Kirik, OI Yarantseva, NV Davydenko); "Methodical instructions for teachers, methodical recommendations for students of a foreign (English) language" (TV Kirik, IK Shevchuk, MI Mykhailyuk); "Methodical instructions for teachers, methodical recommendations for students of philosophy, ethics, aesthetics" (TV Kirik, SP Pilipenko, BO Nosach); "Methodical instructions for teachers, methodical recommendations for students of Russian as a foreign language" (TV Kirik, OO Lyalina); "Methodical instructions for teachers, methodical recommendations for students on the history of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture, culture of intellectual work, psychology of communication, basics of pedagogy and psychology" (TV Kirik, IK Shevchuk, OM Osnach); "Methodical instructions for teachers, methodical recommendations for students of medical jurisprudence" (GV Mulyar, OM Osnach); "Guidelines for teachers, guidelines for students of physical education, etc." (GM Rybalko, VO Bilozyorov) and others; the newest direction of modern methods of teaching in high school is developed, components of media didactics - wikididactics, blog didactics, site didactics and others (Onkovych GV).
The materials are designed for use by teachers and students in independent work in Ukrainian and English.
The scientific work of the department is focused on the study of a wide range of social and humanitarian problems. Thus, today the staff of the department is working on the topic "Formation of national and universal values in students of medical and pharmaceutical schools"
(№ state registration 0113U004578).
During the existence of the department, its staff has published more than 2,000 scientific papers and prepared a large number of reports delivered at forums and conferences of various levels. Participation in the meetings of the scientific community both in Ukraine and abroad is an integral part of the work of the staff of the department.
The department pays great attention to educational work with students, namely conducts Olympiads, Games, concerts and excursions.
The department has a laboratory "Formation of the student's personality - the future doctor", which annually organizes and conducts various meetings of the scientific community, questionnaires among students, introduces the latest technologies of media education, publishes textbooks, manuals, monographs.
Every year the department holds an International scientific-practical conference on the development of the personality of the future employee of the health care system. Proceedings of conferences are used to publish collections of conference materials. Also, annually the department holds a competition of abstracts on topical issues of medicine.
The student scientific circle "Genius loci" also works at the department.
The defense of four doctoral and six candidate dissertations took place at the department.
History of the department
The Department of Foreign Languages and Social Sciences and Humanities was established on the basis of two departments: the Department of Sociology and the Department of Languages in 1992. The first heads: the Department of Sociology - Ph.D., Associate Professor Irina Vasilyevna; Department of Languages - Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Ph.D., Associate Professor Julia Tomina (1992-1996). From 1996 to 2006 the head of the Department of Social Disciplines and Languages was Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Victor Ivanovich Pervak.
Since 2000, the department has held annual international scientific conferences in the field of "Formation of the personality of students of future health care workers." Since 2008, international scientific conferences have been dedicated to the memory of the first president of Kyiv Medical University, Honored Doctor of Ukraine Valery Volodymyrovych Pokanevych.
Since 2006, the department has been working on the laboratory "Formation of the personality of a student-future doctor" and the student scientific group "Genius loci".
